Automotive Repair
Master automotive diagnostics and repair through interactive digital applications and in-person immersions. Learn to design, simulate and visualize vehicle systems digitally before applying those skills on real vehicles during immersion weekends.
Required In-Person Immersion
This course requires attending two weekend immersion sessions per semester in Austin, TX. During these sessions, you'll apply your digital automotive knowledge to real vehicles and systems. Please review the immersion schedule below and ensure you can attend before enrolling.
Automotive Digital Projects
Complete these digital projects to develop your automotive knowledge and prepare for the in-person immersion sessions. Each project builds upon skills from previous ones and prepares you for hands-on work during the weekend immersions.
Engine Diagnostics Simulator
Build an interactive application for diagnosing engine problems through symptoms, sensor data, and diagnostic procedures.
Vehicle Systems Simulator
Create an interactive simulator for automotive systems including brakes, suspension, steering, and drivetrain.
Automotive Electrical Analyzer
Develop an application for simulating, diagnosing, and troubleshooting automotive electrical systems.
Advanced Vehicle Dynamics Simulator
Create a comprehensive simulation environment for vehicle performance, tuning, and advanced diagnostics.

Automotive Workshop, Austin Campus
Two full days (9am-5pm)
Introduction to automotive systems, safety, and diagnostics. Students will apply their digital diagnostic knowledge to real vehicles.
November 17-18, 2023
Automotive Workshop, Austin Campus
Two full days (9am-5pm)
Hands-on systems repair and maintenance. Students will implement their digital system simulations on actual vehicle components.
February 9-10, 2024
Automotive Workshop, Austin Campus
Two full days (9am-5pm)
Electrical systems diagnostics and repair. Students will perform actual electrical troubleshooting based on their digital simulation knowledge.
April 5-6, 2024
Automotive Workshop, Austin Campus
Two full days (9am-5pm)
Advanced diagnostics and performance tuning. Students will implement complex diagnostic procedures and tuning on real vehicles.
Immersion Requirements
For Digital Projects
- • Computer with modern web browser
- • GitHub account for project submissions
- • Basic understanding of web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
- • Camera for recording walkthrough videos
For In-Person Immersions
- • All tools and equipment provided on campus
- • Practice vehicles and components available for hands-on work
- • Appropriate clothing (closed-toe shoes, no loose items)
- • Personal safety equipment (provided, but you may bring your own)
- • Your completed digital projects (for reference during automotive work)
